V1647 Sgr is an early A-type double-lined eclipsing binary with a highly eccentric orbit of rather short period (e = 0.41, P = 3d.28). An accurate photometric analysis and first determination of the apsidal motion was published by Clausen et al. (1977). This paper presents new, accurate spectroscopic orbits of the system for determination of the absolute dimensions of the components, and new times of eclipse which allow the determination of the apsidal motion period with much improved accuracy. The F-type visual companion h 5000 B is physically bound to V1647 Sgr. Its uvbyβ indices indicate that it, too, is unevolved and of approximately Hyades chemical composition.
