The Arecibo Dual Beam Survey (ADBS) is a blind, HI 21-cm survey for galaxies that was carried out during the Gregorian upgrade of the Arecibo 305-m telescope. The survey found 265 galaxies within the roughly 430 sq. degrees of the survey. We present the results of a follow-up optical study of the ADBS galaxies. Optical broad-band images have been obtained for nearly the entire sample in B and V, and these data are used to derive magnitudes, colors, galaxy types, and surface photometry. Fully half of the ADBS galaxies are fainter than B = 15.5, despite the fact that the sample is limited to galaxies with redshifts of less than 8000 km/s. A large fraction of the detected galaxies are dwarfs, many of them with extremely low-surface brightnesses. We illustrate the types of galaxies found in this HI survey and present a complete picture of their optical properties. One ADBS object appears to possess no optical counterpart and is a possible example of a starless HI cloud.
