Observing stations at elevations in excess of 4000m are rare. This report discusses the efforts to sustain and preserve one such site in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, in North America. The long-term value of such sites can be measured in terms of their optical and infrared characteristics, as well as their ability to inspire astronomers and students to study the universe.
