During the summer of 2005, the quasar 3C454.3 outshone 3C273, usually the brightest quasar in the optical sky. We observed changes in the infrared emission of 3C454.3 during and after its historic flare, using the Spitzer Space Telescope. The observations, obtained daily for a month during successive campaigns with the IRS, IRAC and MIPS instruments, form an unprecedented high-quality dataset which may be used to test models of energy propagation through the shocks in the first few light-months at the base of a relativistic jet.
