The dynamics of sporadic meteoroids are studied. The method for calculating the time scales for the production of sporadic meteoroids in planetary encounters based on accumulated angular deflection and the rate of orbital energy change is described. The effect of collisions or ejections from the solar system, impacts with zodiacal cloud particles, and radiative forces on the lifetime of meteoroids are investigated. Time scales related to close encounters with the planets orbital collapse under the Poynting-Robertson effect and collisions with zodiacal dust particles are calculated and compared. It is observed that streams with orbits similar to short-period comets are a major source of the sporadic meteoroid component. The data reveal that the flux of short-period comets needs to be higher than 10,000 years ago in order to explain the supply of materials to the sporadic meteoroid complex and the zodiacal cloud.
