We present the preliminary results of a program designed to make the first direct observational link between the star-formation history and the chemical evolution of the Large Magellanic Cloud. The age distribution of stars is determined by statistical analysis of deep WFPC2 color-magnitude diagrams, whie the chemical evolution can be inferred from the observed metallicity distribution function of red giant stars in the same field. Considering both datasets in combination allows the cleanest reconstruction of the history of the LMC, without the need to assume an age-metallicity relation or to rely on the inference of metallicity from RGB colors.
