The Pan-STARRS project is nearing completion of a 1.8m wide-field survey telescope with a 1.4 Gigapixel focal plane, called PS-1. Survey operations with this telescope are expected to begin in late 2006. Although PS-1 will perform surveys which exceed several existing major surveys in scale and data volume (eg, SDSS and the CFHT-Legacy Survey), PS-1 is just a prototype for a system consisting of four co-aligned optical trains (PS-4), planned for the 2009 time period. This article discusses the Pan-STARRS Image Processing Pipeline (IPP), which is nearing its initial release. The IPP is designed for both the PS-1 and PS-4 data analysis challenges, and is sufficiently flexible to allow easy adaptation to changes in the telescope design and survey strategies. We present the design concepts, demonstrated throughput measurements, and expectations for astrometric and photometric precision from the data analysis system. We also present the data analysis foundation library which has been built for the IPP, called PSLib. Pan-STARRS is funded under a grant from the U.S. Air Force.
