Scientific paper

The imaging polarimetry toward the S255 IR complex in the H and Ks bands and the spectropolarimetry from 1.2 to 4.2 μm for the infrared source IRS 1 are presented. The polarimetric images reveal two kinds of near infrared emission in the S255-2 core region. A bright ridge of nebulosity centered on the double IRS 1 is highly polarized, while the extended nebulosity is primarily unpolarized. The polarization pattern reveals two reflection nebulae dominated by IRS 1a and 1b, respectively. Both nebulae show bipolar structures with axes nearly perpendicular to each other.
