Most nearby dwarf galaxies are closely associated with giant galaxies in a small number of familiar groups. In addition there are several very interesting groups containing only dwarfs. If these groups are bound then they have very high mass to light ratios. Then there is a rather modest number of dwarfs that are not members of any apparent bound system. The nearby structure is becoming clarified thanks to accurate distances to large numbers of systems as a result of HST ACS observations that isolate the tip of the red giant branch.
This research is supported by grants from NSF, HST, and JPL.
