The SINGS project is a comprehensive multi-wavelength survey of 75 nearby galaxies, selected to span the range of types, luminosities, and infrared/optical properties found in the local universe. Full infrared imaging and spectroscopy with Spitzer is being complemented with ancillary observations in the visible, near-infrared, ultraviolet, radio, and X-ray, to provide the most complete panchromatic dataset ever assembled for a nearby galaxy sample. Our own science program is focussed on deriving improved diagnostics of star formation rates in galaxies, understanding the triggering and regulation of star formation on galactic scales, and studying the interstellar environments of star-forming regions, over a much wider range of physical conditions than can be probed in our own Galaxy. Virtually all of the Spitzer imaging for SINGS and over 75 are now completed, and we have delivered post-pipeline data products for 50 galaxies. This talk will present a few early science highlights from the project, and illustrate the capabilities for future archival research.
