Recent observations have revealed that V1500 Cygni (Nova Cygni 1975) contains a magnetic degenerate dwarf with a spin period 1.8% shorter than its orbital period. The rotation is presently approaching synchronism on a time scale of less than 200 years. Such rapid synchronization is difficult to understand. The author discusses several hypotheses, including magnetic interaction with a magnetized secondary and angular momentum loss to a wind. It will soon be possible to measure the second derivative of the spin period, which will distinguish among the competing explanations. Understanding V1500 Cygni may illuminate the problem of spin-down of accreting neutron stars.
