Using the Green Bank Telescope of the NRAO, we have mapped the 21cm emission from HI in several high Galactic latitude fields to study the relationship between NH and the far-IR emission from dust associated with the gas. In a field around the Spitzer extragalactic First Look Survey (XFLS) there is an excellent correlation between NH and I100 microns with two exceptions: a high velocity HI cloud which has a FIR emissivity only a small fraction of that of the disk gas, and a bright HI cloud, which has excess I100 micron emission, probably because it contains some molecular H2. In a field in Bootes, however, there is an HI component which has small NH, and thus likely no molecules, but an FIR emissivity 2.5 times that of the other HI. We discuss the possible origins of this anomalous FIR-emitting gas and its implications for predicting the FIR properties of the sky from measurement of the gas in any direction. The NRAO is operated by Associated Universities, Inc., under a cooperative agreement with the NSF.
