Chandra Proposal Id #07400039

Scientific paper

We propose to observe the bright X-ray compact source GX 9+1 with the
HETGS-ACIS-S of Chandra. The spectrum displays complex features in the
vicinity of the Mg and Si absorption edges. These features are believed
to be produced by absorption from interstellar dust grains (X-ray
Absorption Fine Structure, XAFS), possibly in the form of silicates.
