We propose to obtain the first high resolution soft X-ray spectrum of the ultracompact binary candidate RX J0806.3+1527, which may be the shortest period binary system known (321.5 s), and perhaps an "electric" star. Our recent CHANDRA observations have demonstrated that the observed X-ray frequency is increasing at a rate consistent with expectations for gravitational radiation losses if the period is orbital. We will search for atomic spectral lines in an effort to obtain the first measurements of radial velocity variations at the observed X-ray frequency, and confirm or reject the ultracompact hypothesis. We will also accurately measure the flux (luminosity) in the very soft X-ray band and continue timing of the X-ray modulation to clarify the stability of the spin-up.
