Three samples of AGN are independently selected in the Chandra/SWIRE Survey based on their X-ray, radio and infrared properties. The Chandra/SWIRE Survey, part of the Spitzer Wide-Area InfraRed Extragalactic (SWIRE) Survey Legacy Project, covers 0.6 square degrees in the northern Lockman Hole SWIRE field. Medium-depth X-ray data from Chandra, deep infrared data in all seven Spitzer bands, deep optical data from KPNO, and extremely deep VLA 20cm data have been obtained in the field.
The three samples contain 1) X-ray sources with X-ray luminosities larger than 1042 cm-2, 2) radio sources with large radio over infrared flux ratios or radio luminosities larger than 1024 W Hz-1, and 3) infrared sources with red infrared spectral energy distributions (SEDs). The SEDs, luminosities and redshifts of each sample are analyzed and compared. We quantify the selection biases of the three methods and estimate the fraction of AGN that are missed in each sample. Missed AGN are low-luminosity AGN or heavily obscured AGN candidates. Their contributions to the total AGN counts as a function of infrared and radio flux, luminosity and redshift are estimated.
Support for this work, part of the Spitzer Space Telescope Legacy Science Program, was provided by NASA through an award issued by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology under NASA contract 1407. Financial support from NASA grant G04-5158A is also acknowledged.
