Recent high-energy detections of radio-quiet neutron stars are changing our view of central sources in young supernova remnants. There are at least several classes of sources that make up this radio-quiet population: rotation-powered pulsars with magnetic fields around 1012 G, non-rotation powered pulsars (possibly magnetars) and non-pulsating X-ray point sources. I will review pulsar emission mechanisms for both thermal and non-thermal emission in both rotation-powered and non-rotation powered sources. Radio quiescence in some cases may be caused by unfavorable alignment with the radio beams. In pulsars with magnetic fields exceeding 1014 G, radio quiescence may be due to the suppression of pair production by photon splitting. .
