We investigate the role of photoevaporation in the evolution of disks around young stars. We suggest that models which combine viscous evolution with photoevaporation should include the effect of the direct stellar radiation field at late times in the evolution, and construct hydrodynamic models of this process. We incorporate our results into a model of disk evolution, and show that the model predicts evolutionary timescales which are consistent with those derived from observations. We also use a simple prescription to model the spectral energy distribution of the evolving disk, and show that a modest spread of model parameters can successfully reproduce observed data across a wide range of wavelengths.
