The influence of the orbital eccentricity of a perturbing body (ep) on the chaotic region is investigated by applying the theory of resonance overlap to the elliptic restricted three-body model. Results of the analysis show that, the orbital (ep) increases the size of the chaotic region, confirming the conjecture of Duncan et al. (1988). This finding is helpful in overcoming the difficulty encountered in the choice of the 'feeding zone' in numerical simulations of the formation of the solar system (Wetherill, 1980).
