Results from a numerical study of interactions between Alfvén waves propagating along auroral magnetic field lines, and the microturbulent layer modeled as electron drug resulting from ion-cyclotron turbulence, are presented. The electron drug becomes operative in the low-density region above the auroral ionosphere where the parallel current in the incident Alfvén wave becomes large. To carry this current in the low-density plasma, electron parallel drift speed can exceed the threshold for ion-cyclotron instability, which then forms the turbulent layer. It is shown that this layer effectively reflects the incident Alfvén wave and ``insulates'' the wave from low altitudes where the wave energy dissipates due to (a) finite parallel collisional conductivity and (b) ionospheric Joule heating. Dynamics and interactions of the Alfvén waves with the auroral ionosphere when the effect of plasma microturbulence is included in the model is investigated as a function of the wave frequency, amplitude, transverse wavelength, and parameters of the low-altitude auroral plasma (density, temperature, ionospheric conductivities). Applications of the numerical results to selected auroral observations are discussed.
