In order to investigate the continuity of galaxy properties at the low D/B end of the Hubble sequence, the photometric and kinematic properties of twelve disky elliptical galaxies and one S0 galaxy have been examined in detail. The present work is structured in the following way. In Chapter two, details concerning the selection of the sample for the photometric study, the observations, data reduction and photometric calibration are presented. The derivation of characteristic parameters of the galaxies follows. A description of the photometric decomposition method follow in Chapter three. Its range of applicability and some examples are discussed. Chapter four comprises the kinematic observations, as well as the reduction, analysis and extraction of rotation and velocity dispersion curves from the kinematical data. Subject of Chapter five is, in analogy to Chapter three, the kinematic decomposition into disk and bulge. Chapter six discusses at length the results obtained through the photometric and kinematic decomposition. Correlations between the several photometric and kinematic parameters of disks and bulges are investigated, and the properties of disky E's are compared with characteristic parameters of S0 and spiral galaxies. The question of the origin of disky E's is addressed in the context of theories of galaxy formation.
