We present uvby observations of the B5 V star Lambda Columbae and find that the period of its light variation is equal to either 0.6430 +/- 0.0004 or 0.3899 +/- 0.0002 d. We then consider four possible causes of the variation: (1) tidal distortions; (2) a reflection effect; (3) rotational modulation, and (4) pulsations. The ambiguity of the period notwithstanding, we show that the first two hypotheses lead to predictions contradicted by observations, while the other two are both consistent with available data.
