Perihelion passages and the shortest distances from the earth of the comet Encke from 1786 to 1980 are tabulated along with the eccentricity and inclination of its orbit. It is noted that the comet follows a practically unperturbed elliptical orbit around the sun for several revolutions; when it passes in the vicinity of Jupiter, variations occur in its orbit. Attention is also given to the ephemerides of the comet from Sept. 17, 1980 to Nov. 30, 1980.
