We use the SOHO/LASCO observations together with a steamer and flux-rope model given by Wu et al. (1999) to illustrate the physical processes to initiate CMEs and their propagation. Two distinct initiation processes (i.e. photospheric shear and increasing the axial current of the flux-rope) are investigated which show that the shear induced CMEs are in general slower than the CMEs pushed by flux-rope. We have interpreted the shear induced CME as due to the loss-of-equilibrium of the streamer and flux-rope structure. This type corresponds to those observed CME events having the height-time curve which shows CMEs lifted up prior to the filament eruption (22 June 1998 event). The other case could be classified as streamer destabilization due to flux-rope eruption (3 January 1998). The data obtained from SOHO/LASCO and Wind spacecraft for the 6-12 January 1997 and 29 April - 6 May 1998 events together with the streamer and flux rope model are used to show the connection between the CME and ICME.
