The results of ground-based spectroscopic observations of Mars in the
CO2 absorption bands near a wavelength of 1.6 microns in the period from
1971 to 1975 are discussed. It is shown that the variations in the
intensities of the CO2 bands are connected mainly with seasonal
variations of the total pressure in the Martian atmosphere.
