Analysis of the depletions of Mg, Si, and Fe in diffuse clouds shows
that distinct Mg-rich and (Fe, Si)-rich dust components exist in diffuse
clouds. It is unlikely that more than 65% of interstellar Mg is ever
contained in silicates. Depletion in diffuse clouds may occur by
selective accretion on (Fe, Si)-oxide cores.
