The discrepancy between recent measurements of the far UV diffuse radiation leads to different interpretations as to its dominant contributor, either extragalactic light or galactic plane light scattered off dust grains. This situation has stimulated a review of existing measurements and a more detailed analysis of the UV survey performed by the ELZ photometer on board the D2B satellite. A correlation between far UV brightness and hydrogen column density is found. Two other intensity measurements of the UV diffuse radiation at high galactic latitudes at 2200 and 3100 A are discussed. The sky background spectrum obtained is strikingly similar to the spectrum of the Coalsack dark nebula. These results suggest a significant contribution of diffuse galactic light in the UV observed background but do not rule out an extragalactic component.
