An attempt is made to show that the global effects of the magnetic field on the visible spectrum of B-type stars can be detected by multicolor photometry and that a rough order of magnitude of surface field intensities may be estimated. Following Maitzen (1976) who analyzed the 5200-A depression of Ap stars and the contributions of Hauck (1976) and North (1980) on photometric effects of magnetic stars in the Geneva system, a technique is presented which makes it possible to estimate the order of magnitude of field intensities for stars of effective temperature in the range 10,000-20,000 K and log gravity between 4.5 and 3.5.
