A large amount of CO has been detected over many SL-9/Jupiter impacts.
This gas was never detected before the collision, so here the authors
present a chemical mechanism about the formation of CO from a parent
compound; they identify it in POM (polyoxymethilene), a well known HCHO
polymer discovered in Halley nucleus.
