Analytical models have been developed to study the operating characteristics of electrical transmission lines for use on the lunar surface. Important design considerations for a transmission line operating on the lunar surface are mass, temperature, and efficiency. Transmission line parameters which impact these considerations include voltage, power loss, and waveform. The electrical and thermal models developed are used to calculate transmission line mass, temperature, and efficiency as a function of voltage, geometry, waveform, location, and line size. The analyses include ac and dc for above ground, on the surface, and below ground operation. Geometries studied include a vacuum-insulated, round two-wire transmission line, a vacuum insulated rectangular (flat) two-wire transmission line, and a solid dielectric insulated, coaxial transmission line.
