Stars: Flare, Activity, Rotation

Scientific paper

The analysis of a homogeneous set of photometric UBV data of the flare star EV Lac for the time interval between July 1972 and October 1976 indicates that EV Lac exhibits intervals of periodic light variations with amplitudes up to 0.1 magnitude and period of 4.376d. The duration of these active periods are of the order of one or two months and are separated by calm periods of about the same duration. All the photometrically active periods coincide with periods of relatively high flare activity. The phasing of the light minima is in good agreement with the phasing of the flare frequency for the time interval 1973-1976. These results are in favour of a starspot modulated light variation model of the star which rotates with a period of 4.376d.
