A new method is proposed for evaluating the epoch of the minimum of light curves observed photometrically, as an alternative to the more conventional and widely used methods. It makes use of integration of the light curve, whose interval of integration is repeatedly shifted by a constant quantity of time. Each photometric observation is considered as a point estimate of the function corresponding to the light curve of the investigated star, and any superimposed variation whose frequency is a multiple of the inverse of the integration interval is filtered out. Some hypothetical light curves with different shapes and asymmetry degrees have been simulated in order to compare the results of this sliding integration method with the Kwee and Van Woerden method. The former shows greater immunity against observational errors and a smaller deviation from the theoretical case in the presence of asymmetries.
