Disk center polarization measurements of Saturn were recorded in orange light covering 18 years of possible time variation, as well as measurements for five wavelengths. Measurements were also recorded at the limb, terminator, and pole, and regional measurements were taken over the disk. These data were analyzed on the basis of Mie scattering theory and transfer theory in planetary atmospheres. A model for the aerosols in Saturn's upper atmosphere is set forth, including the homogeneity of the upper haze layer and an analysis of the measurements in visible light and of wavelength dependency. It is concluded that the main cloud layer is made of transparent spherical particles of radius 1.4 micron and refractive index 1.44. Regional polarization mapping reveals a high degree of polarization around the pole.
