Five approaches are investigated for using the Galaxy as a prime calibrator of the long and short scales for determining the Hubble constant. The techniques involve a direct quantitative comparison of the Galaxy with other galaxies, to provide a third independent scale for comparison purposes, and by comparing the known galactocentric distance of the sun with values implied by distances of the Virgo cluster in the two scales. Consideration is given to the Tully-Fisher relations between absolute magnitude and maximum rotation velocity, Faber-Jackson linear correlations between the absolute magnitude and the central velocity dispersion in various galaxies, a zero point on the luminosity index scale, to sosies (morphologically similar galaxies predicted to have equal luminosities), and to the distance to the Virgo galaxy. The long scale is concluded to be irreconcilable with all known parameters of the Galaxy, while the short scale features parameters which all fall within calculated standard deviations. A Hubble constant of 95 km/sec per Mpc is calculated, along with an 18 billion year age of the universe.
