The synthetic equivalent width of the line H-beta in emission is obtained for H II regions opaque to the Lyman photon flux, with embedded OB associations with different initial chemical compositions and initial mass functions. The variation of synthetic equivalent width as a function of the evolution of the ionizing stars is analyzed, and observations of the synthetic equivalent width for M33 and M51 by Seale (1971) are discussed. Analyses of the influence of metallicity, helium contents, and IMF on the variation of synthetic equivalent width during the evolution of the ionizing stars of a H II region, show that it is possible to find an isochronous solution for the age of the H II regions in M101, with a fluctuation in age smaller than the lifetime of the hydrogen burning phase of the more massive stars.
