Gravitational Microlensing: Galactic Bulge, Gravitational Lens -- Microlens -- Machos -- Galaxy: Bar -- Galactic Bulge
Scientific paper
Gravitational microlensing occurs when a compact intervening mass produces unresolved multiple images of a background source. At present three experiments (MACHO, OGLE and EROS) are progressing to estimate the mass distribution in our galaxy by measuring the optical depth to microlensing of stars in the Galactic Bulge, LMC and M31. Possible methods to estimate mass of the microlens from these observations will be suggested.
