Solar Limb: Solar Faculae

To derive the limb position in faculae the authors consider the rms radius fluctuations in the inhomogeneous atmosphere of faculae to follow the normal distribution. This causes the limb height in faculae to increase by the value σ2/2H, where H is the scale height, σ is the rms radius fluctuation. The comparison with an observed limb height in faculae (≡100 km) obtained from eclipse observations gives σ = H√3.
