Observations of galactic HI absorption in the continuum spectra of 69 radio sources have been carried out using the NRAO 3-element interferometer and the MPIfR l()()-m telescope. A special effort was made to obtain high velocity resolution and good signal-to-noise ratio. Emission profiles were obtained for all sources using either the 1()o-m telescope at Effelsberg, the 91-m telescope at Green Bank or the 64-m telescope at Parkes. In the present paper the observations are published. In a subsequent paper we will discuss the interpretation of these results.
