Solar Magnetic Fields: Models

Scientific paper

A force-free magnetic field model with constant α is established, including the special case α = 0 (current-free or potential field). A boundary element method procedure is proposed to solve the problem. The computational aspects are mainly discussed. The procedure ensures a unique solution as well as a finite magnetic energy content. The proposed formulation has been applied to solve magnetic fields above the solar surface of some sunspots, and satisfactory agreement is obtained between calculated and observed magnetograms.
