A description of the various theoretical tools available for asteroseismology of white dwarf stars is given. These include period spacings between consecutive radial overtone g-modes, the mean of the period spacings, and mode trapping, as displayed by a period spacing diagram or the equivalent and frequency splittings within a multiplet for a given pulsation mode. Using PG 1159-035 and GD 358 as examples, I illustrate what we can learn from these stars when data of sufficient quality (from the Whole Earth Telescope, WET, for example) are available.
