Clusters Of Galaxies-Dynamics

Scientific paper

We use the radial velocity data for 414 galaxies in the Coma cluster region provided by Kent and Gunn and the results of applying a membership criterion to carry out a discussion on the dynamical aspects of the Coma cluster. Our analysis shows that the Coma cluster has no bulk rotation that is clearly a dynamical effect. Fitting with the King-Mitchie model we find a core radius of 5.2' or 210 kpc at H0 = 50(km/s)/Mpc and a characteristic velocity dispersion of 935 km/s. Viewed dynamically, there is clear morphological segregation, and there is evidence that substructure exists in the central region.
