The Five-hundred-meter Spherical Aperture Telescope (FAST) is an approved 'mega-science' project currently under construction in Guizhou, China. Sitted in a Caster formation in an extremely radio quiet area, FAST is designed to provide complete coverage between 80 MHz and 3 GHz and will be the most sensitive low frequency radio telescope upon its expected completion in 2014. With its one tenth square kilometer effective collecting area and fully active primary surface, FAST has the potential to explore pioneering science ahead of SKA, including radio signals from exoplanets.
