The 2009 International Year of Astronomy marks the 400th anniversary of Galileo's telescopic observations. It will be a celebration of astronomy-related events around the world, highlighting the connections among people and the surrounding universe. Educators, scientists and amateur astronomers will join forces to bring close-up views of the night sky to a variety of new places, from city sidewalks and mountaintop observatories to remote and underdeveloped countries. For many people, this may be their first opportunity to explore the night sky with a telescope. How can blind or visually impaired people participate in telescopic observations? This paper will present the five strategies you should know to make observatory open nights and star parties accessible to all people regardless of their visual ability.
