Optically-thick accretion disks are considered to be important ingredients of luminous AGNs. Evidence for their existence is well supported by observations and in recent years there has been some progress in understanding their dynamics. However, the role of accretion disks in optical/UV/X-ray variability of AGNs is not quite clear. Probably, on short timescales, the disk reprocesses the variable X-ray flux, but, on longer timescales the variations of the disk structure lead directly to optical/UV variations as well as affecting, or even creating, the X-ray variability pattern. Considerable progress is urgently needed in modelling time-dependent disk to close the gap between theory and the stream of data coming from AGN monitoring.
