We made simultaneous optical photometric and polarimetric observations of several BL Lac objects in the period 1980-98, in order to study the relationships between continuum fluxes, colors and polarization properties. We show some results from the long-term monitoring and also discuss briefly the configuration of the magnetic field in the jet and the effects of Doppler boosting.
