We propose to observe with ATCA at 3 mm a sample of 20 young stellar objects in the rho-Oph star forming region. Because of its proximity (distance ~ 150 pc), young age (~ 0.5 Myr) and distance from the Galactic Plane (l ~ 17 degrees), rho-Oph is an ideal southern region to study the physical processes involved in the early stages of star and planet formation. These observations will allow to obtain more reliable estimates of the dust opacity and mass of the circumstellar disks in rho-Oph YSOs. These data will allow us to investigate possible correlations of the dust properties, like for example the dust grain growth, and of the disk mass with stellar mass and mass accretion rate. This will give important constraints to the models of circumstellar disk formation and evolution, and the results will be compared to the analagous studies carried out in other star forming regions.
