We present the results from 5 1/2 years of radial velocity (RV) monitoring of 38 late-type stars in the southern hemisphere with the ESO Coudé Echelle Spectrometer (CES) on La Silla. In this sample of stars we have discovered 1 extrasolar planet in an Earth-like orbit around the young and active G0V star iota Horologii (Kürster et al., 2000, A&A 353, L33). The RV results for the remaining CES survey stars were tested for variability, linear and non-linear trends and for significant periodic signals. Based on the long-term RV data we can now set limits for the existence of giant planets around these stars. We acknowledge support by NSF grant AST-9808980, NASA grant NAG5-9227 and the ESO science department.
