We present CO observations of high negative velocity gas seen towards the Galactic Centre. Two components of this gas are discussed: an east-west ridge centred at -190 km 1; and extended widespread material at under -170 km 1 which forms northeast-southwest ridges. The physical conditions of the -190 km 1 gas are estimated using four CO lines. We associate the -190 km 1 and lower velocity gas with the large-scale Galactic gas distribution. Key words: ISM: clouds - ISM: molecules - ISM: structure - Galaxy: centre - radio lines: ISM.
