Precession effects in two binaries, Vela X-1 and 4U 1700-37, are reported. The optical light curve of the 4U 1700-37 system undergoes long-period variations on a time scale P = 32.46 d. The duration of the X-ray eclipse of the compact source depends on the phase of the period, with the enhanced absorption of optical starlight by the gas stream at precessional period 0.6 accompanied by a lengthening of the duration of the eclipse from about 0.6 d to about 1.0 d. In the Vela X-1 system gas streams produce optical eclipses in two parts of the light curve: near primary minimum and at precession phases about 0.1. The duration of the X-ray eclipse depends in a complicated fashion on the phase of the 93.3 d period. Weighted mean values for the epoch of the X-ray mideclipse corrected for the precession effect are obtained, and the dependence on the precession phase of the time intervals between the epochs of immersion into eclipse and emersion from eclipse and the computed position of mideclipse are shown.
