Results of radial velocity measurements obtaining using digital reduction techniques are presented for six W Ursae Majoris-type contact binaries: TZ Boo, XY Boo, TX CNC, RZ Com, and Y Sex. Improved mass ratios are obtained and the discrepancy between values determined spectroscopically and those derived from the light curve synthesis technique is examined. The derived spectroscopic mass ratios obtained using digital reduction techniques are found to be in good agreement with the photometric mass ratios determined by light curve synthesis techniques. It is concluded that the apparent mass ratio discrepancy is due mainly to the difficulty in measuring the broad and blended spectral lines which are characteristic of these systems, rather than a fundamental problem with the photometric model.
