A study is presented of 226 iron fragments of the Kaali meteorite (Saarema Island, Estonian SSR) collected near craters 2-8 and 5 which have diameters of 20-40 and 13 m, respectively. Results of mineralogical analyses show that plastic deformation structures exist in the kamacite and schriebersite as well as in the olivine grains in kamacite. The samples also contained taenite globules 1-5 microns in size formed as a result of melting during crater formation. These results are in agreement with previous findings concerning the velocity of the meteorite fragments (12-14 km/sec), the explosive origin of the small craters, and the phase transitions in the meteoritic material and the immediately adjoining terrestrial rocks in the region where the meteorite penetrated into the moraine material. Also found was a large number of taenite lamellae and separate schriebersite and olivine inclusions.
